The excitement bubbling up around Immaculate is simply contagious, evidenced by a solid 71% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes already. With such glowing reviews, fans are wasting no time lining up at theaters, popcorn in hand, eager to experience the thrills of this compelling religious horror story. In the movie, Sweeney's character steps into an alluring Italian convent to navigate a path of self-discovery and redemption amidst the chaos of the world.
She felt blessed with a second lease on life after a childhood accident. But Cecilia, Sweeney’s character, soon learns that the Convent is not what it seems- especially when she discovers her unexpected pregnancy. Opening up about her forthcoming project and her deep-rooted affection for the horror genre, Sweeney recently shared with Moviefone that there are “no boundaries or limits to what a character can do” in horror. What many may not realize, however, is that Sweeney had long set her sights on this particular project.
Right from her teenage years, Sydney Sweeney had envisioned herself being part of this project.

During her appearance on Jimmy Fallon's talk show, Sydney Sweeney opened up about landing the role in Immaculate. Reflecting on it, the actress shared that she had auditioned for an earlier version of the film at the age of 16. However, it was not until a decade later, when the project reappeared, that the 26-year-old seized the opportunity and reached out to her agents.
Sweeney just could not get the script out of her mind. She asked her agents, "What’s happened with it?". Capitalizing on the opportunity, the Euphoria actress decided to collaborate with the writer to adapt the script for a 25-year-old. With investors lined up and financing in place, she then took the lead in bringing on a director, some extras from her own family, and became a producer herself for the first time.
