Meghan Markle Had Warned Prince Harry to Chop Out Some Bits From Spare to Avoid Any Hiccups, Claims Royal Expert
Ever since Prince Harry announced his intention to pen an "intimate and heartfelt" memoir, the royal family had been preparing for what was to come. Turned out, Buckingham Palace's concerns were justified. Prince Harry did not shy away from sharing intimate family details and personal conversations in Spare. The memoir read disarmingly honest and personal, unveiling the idiosyncrasies of his often isolated life. It was the small, intimate details, rather than the grand spectacles, that painted a picture of how little the world knew about The Firm.
There was one detail in his book, however, that troubled his wife, Meghan Markle, enough for her to urge the prince to leave it out.

In Spare, there are mentions of Prince Harry's drug use, including a recollection of smoking a joint after dinner and fretting over the smoke reaching his elderly neighbor, the Duke of Kent. Prince Harry's openness about drug use in the book could bar him from entering the US, as visa applicants are required to disclose such details. Speaking to GBN America, the royal biographer Angela Levin revealed that Meghan Markle was aware of this consequence and even tried to “warn” him against revealing his drug use in his memoir.
The Prince is now wrestling with an "uncertain future" in the United States and might even get deported if Donald Trump takes the presidency. Levin described it as a "very stupid" move. Nevertheless, despite the turbulent seas of controversy and potential risks for the Prince, Spare continues to bask in the glow of its achievements even a year after of its publication. And as some argue, the Sussexes themselves are not particularly eager to secure US citizenship for Prince Harry either.
According to some recent interviews and insider sources, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appear to be reluctant to make the Duke an American citizen.

For years now, Prince Harry has been embracing the American way of life. The idea of him getting a full US citizenship is a topic that even the Duke himself broached in a discussion with Good Morning America, last month. However, journalist Lee Cohen cast doubt on whether the Prince will ever fully follow through on his intentions. Speaking to GB News last month, Cohen voiced his skepticism, suggesting that "Meghan will let him do that", given the potential consequences this could have on their royal status.
When Prince Harry touched down in British Columbia’s Whistler in Canada for the Invictus Games One Year to Go event, he made it crystal clear that American citizenship is not exactly at the top of his to-do list. He even refused to call himself an American. However, later, the 39-year-old offered a somewhat ambiguous response, saying, "I don't know how I feel". With both halves of the Californian couple allegedly showing some hesitation about the Duke’s citizenship, it is uncertain whether the Prince will go all out to put down roots in the US.
