Fan theories are great fun. Fans love the show, so they develop their version of reasons and theories, making the watching experience even more exciting. And when a show is as popular and as enjoyable as Ozark, fan theories are a must. However, these theories are always not true, and the same is the case with a popular theory following the release of Ozark season 4 part 1, which the creators have dismissed.

Ben and other characters in Ozark season 4
Ozark is one of the best-written shows on Netflix. The story is well driven, engaging, and has unique, well-written characters with distinctive layers to their personality. Ozark adds new characters with every installment. In season 4 part 1, the newest additions are Omar Navarro’s nephew Javi Elizonndro (Alfonso Herrera) and Clare Shaw (Katrina Lenk), the CEO of pharmaceutical company Shaw Medical Solutions.
However, one such character missing was Wendy’s brother Ben (Tom Pelphrey). He was first introduced in season 3 of Ozark. Ben came to live with Wendy after losing his job as a substitute teacher. But things take a turn for the worse when the two siblings do not get along well. Ben disagrees with Wendy’s unlawful endeavors and becomes a liability to both Marty and Wendy.
Fans liked the character of Ben so much that when creators (last warning major spoiler ahead) killed him off in season three, they just could not believe that he was dead.
Fan theory about Ben’s death
After Nelson kills and delivers the body of Ben to Wendy and Marty for them to destroy the evidence, we never get to see the body. Redditor Codan04 expressed that Ozark never shies away from killing characters openly. His argument was that Ruth went to a morgue, where the body bag of her uncle Russ (Marc Menchaca) was unzipped so that she could give him one last kiss. So why hide the body of Ben?
Show creators about the theory
The theory about Ben actually being alive was so popular that the showrunner Chris Mundy himself had to address it. At the show’s virtual party, PaleyFest panel (via TVLine), he said, “I love the fact that people love [Ben] enough to come up with that theory,” he said. “I wish it were true. But it ain’t true.”
This can be confirmed as throughout the new season, Wendy is making up excuses for Ben’s absence and Marty commenting on her wife’s agitation over her brother and saying, “(he) won’t be coming back.”
We all are really sad that the theory did not turn out to be true. Do let us know about some other theories you have for Season 4 of Ozark streaming on Netflix.
